Our Team
Sumit Khetarpal, MS Sumit Khetarpal serves as the Chief Technical Officer for APDC, providing engineering expertise for medical device development. He worked as Systems Engineering Manager at two Fortune 500 companies - Siemens and Continental, where he led the launch of several Industry leading products. He has broad knowledge of mechanical systems and rapid-prototyping for medical devices. His intimate knowledge of product development life cycle, strong focus on system requirements and failure mode analysis helps startups in identifying technical risks, and formulating an efficient product development roadmap. He is currently leading the product development of a new microfluidics based medical device that will be used to assess risk of arterial thrombosis and optimize drug therapy.
Omer Inan, PhD Dr. Inan is an Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech. He has more than a decade of experience in designing sensing systems and algorithms for human health and performance applications. He is author or co-author on more than 45 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and conferences. His research focuses on applying embedded systems concepts to monitoring cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health, in particular for wearable sensing, home monitoring, and pediatric bioengineering applications. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, Dr. Inan amassed significant industrial experience as the Chief Engineer at Countryman Associates, a professional audio manufacturer, and at ALZA Corporation (A Johnson & Johnson Co.) in the drug device research and development group. Dr. Inan is currently an Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics and the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Conference.
Mike Fisher, MS Mr. Fisher is Director of Product Development at the Global Center for Medical Innovation (GCMI). He has 18 years of experience in R&D and product development with specialization in orthopedics, urology, women’s medicine, cosmetic surgery, adult stem cell pathologies, and tissue engineered dressings. Mike has worked for start-up companies, academic labs, and $-multi-billion divisions of large medical companies. Mike is named on more than 15 US patents, brought 3 products into commercialization, and was named a Company Innovator at DePuy Spine. Prior to joining GCMI, he spent significant time in China and Malaysia establishing large-scale manufacturing systems that were compliant with FDA’s quality systems regulation. Mike earned BS and MS degrees in Engineering Mechanics from Virginia Tech and is Board Chairman emeritus for that academic department. He currently serves on the advisory board for Virginia Tech’s new Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics (BEAM) department.
